Longitudinal associations between ambient air pollution and insulin sensitivity: results from the KORA cohort study

چکیده

BackgroundImpaired insulin sensitivity could be an intermediate step that links exposure to air pollution the development of type 2 diabetes. However, longitudinal associations with remain unclear. Our study investigated long-term degree and rate change sensitivity.MethodsIn this study, we analysed data from Cooperative Health Research in Region Augsburg (KORA) cohort Augsburg, Germany, which recruited participants aged 25–74 years survey between 1999 2001 (KORA S4), two follow-up examinations 2006–08 F4) 2013–14 FF4). Serum concentrations fasting glucose, homoeostasis model assessment resistance (HOMA-IR, a surrogate measure sensitivity) ?-cell function (HOMA-B, marker for secretion) were assessed at up three visits 2014. Annual average pollutant residence estimated by land-use regression models. We examined repeatedly biomarker levels using mixed-effects models, annual biomarkers quantile models.FindingsAmong 9620 observations 4261 KORA cohort, included 6008 (62·5%) 3297 (77·4%) our analyses. Per IQR increment concentrations, HOMA-IR significantly increased 2·5% (95% CI 0·3 4·7) coarse particulate matter, 3·1% (0·9 5·3) PM2·5, 3·6% (1·0 6·3) PM2·5absorbance, 3·2% (0·6 5·8) nitrogen dioxide, borderline 2·2% (–0·1 4·5) ozone, whereas it did not increase whole range ultrafine particles. Similar positive slightly smaller magnitude observed HOMA-B levels. In addition, positively associated HOMA-IR, HOMA-B, insulin. Neither level nor glucose exposure.InterpretationOur indicates contribute resistance, is one key factors pathogenesis diabetes.FundingGerman Federal Ministry Education Research. Impaired sensitivity. Adiponectin may mediate the association between omentin, circulating lipids and insulin sensitivity: results from the KORA F4 study.

OBJECTIVE Reduced circulating omentin levels have been reported in obesity and type 2 diabetes, but data were mostly derived from univariate analyses in small study samples. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between omentin, abnormal glucose tolerance and related metabolic factors in a large population-based cross-sectional study. DESIGN AND METHODS Serum omentin was measured b...

Associations between Traffic Noise, Particulate Air Pollution, Hypertension, and Isolated Systolic Hypertension in Adults: The KORA Study

BACKGROUND Studies on the association between traffic noise and cardiovascular diseases have rarely considered air pollution as a covariate in the analyses. Isolated systolic hypertension has not yet been in the focus of epidemiological noise research. METHODS The association between traffic noise (road and rail) and the prevalence of hypertension was assessed in two study populations with a ...

Ambient Air Pollution and Depressive Symptoms in Older Adults: Results from the MOBILIZE Boston Study

BACKGROUND Exposure to ambient air pollution, particularly from traffic, has been associated with adverse cognitive outcomes, but the association with depressive symptoms remains unclear. OBJECTIVES We investigated the association between exposure to ambient air and traffic pollution and the presence of depressive symptoms among 732 Boston-area adults ≥ 65 years of age (78.1 ± 5.5 years, mean...

The Association between Ambient Fine Particulate Air Pollution and Lung Cancer Incidence: Results from the AHSMOG-2 Study

BACKGROUND There is a positive association between ambient fine particulate matter ≤ 2.5 μm in aerodynamic diameter (PM2.5) and incidence and mortality of lung cancer (LC), but few studies have assessed the relationship between ambient PM2.5 and LC among never smokers. OBJECTIVES We assessed the association between PM2.5 and risk of LC using the Adventist Health and Smog Study-2 (AHSMOG-2), a...
